You can then, in linux, delete atapi.sys from ...\System32 and from c:\ (if there). You might also want to search for it anywhere else. See if you can get into rc then. If the cd boots correctly, try booting from c: before trying any repairs. Trying another cd (even the wrong version, just to see if it boots correctly) could not hurt anything.
