IE8 and IE7 viewing sites

Upon installling IE8 I cannot read any websites Yesterday I read about how to simply step back from IE8 to IE7. I followed it by using the Remove Programs from the Control Panel. It automatically replaced IE8 with IE7 and to my amazement, the browser worked with all the websites I tried to open. This morning, my wife powered up the laptop and IE7 started and to her delight, the websites opened without a hitch. About 1 hour later, despite the system still using IE7, the problem returned. No websites would open. I checked the wireless connection and it is still Very Good connection. At this point, no firewall, no anti-virus running. Restarted twice and still no solution. Any ideas?

WinXP, Athlon 1.2, 1GB mem
