The applications vary widely, some using up less than 1% of the CPU.
It feels like most, of not all of the applications have something to do with media.
The ones I can think of right now are:
- Photoshop
- Cinema 4D
- A lot of games
- Ventrilo
It happens with Photoshop, yet not with Adobe Flash Professional. Cinema 4D is a
3D modeling program. I would think that it has something to do with graphics drivers,
but Ventrilo is also an affected program, which is just a voice chat client. Yet
not all of my graphics or sound programs have this problem.
So to summarize:
- All of the affected applications are related to media
- Not all media applications are affected
- It happens every time with these programs
I tried running Ventrilo with all my anti-virus, firewall, etc turned off, and it
used <%1 of the CPU, but it still had the problem. I think this problem started
immediately (or maybe soon afterwards) after I installed Windows. It likely have
something to do with my installation, since it was from a custom nLite CD, but I
don't know of any way to fix it other than a full reformat.
