98% of the time I can work with the Sony. 99.75% of the time the HP works just fine.
So if it is the drive it is the Sony, which is the one missing the CD marker.
The FIRST time XP came up w/o the devices.
Both Nero and Record Now can read either device.
The last time I went down this path it was Win Media Player that wouldn't use either
of my drives, the HP had, also lost its CD. My take is that Nero and Record now use
the character strings these devices return, but WMP uses some bit setting.
