That is usually hardware. Try disabling the modem and soundcard (BIOS) first.
This does not mean the hardware is bad, just that Setup cannot reconcile it. Re-enable
and install the drivers after the core os is running.
HINT: If you can (using UBCD, etc) copy the i386 folder to the hard drive and run
your installs from there.
