NOTE... that the article was last updated in 2001 and goes way back to Windows 3.1!!.
It is way out of date. The word "image" is used in various contexts, so we need
to know specifically the file name and the extension.
Note that there are duplicates of files throughout the directories of XP, and while
some may have identical names, they may be slightly different as tweaked by the manufacturers
of either hardware or software vendors to fit their respective uses. When they reside
in different directories, they may/will be associated with various programs that
will look for them in a specific location and some files can not be shared by two
running programs so you will need two copies of certian files depending on the programs
you have running. Deleting it may render the program inoperable. Do not delete
a file unless you are 100% certian you know what it is and if it can be deleted.
As to the files mentioned in the article, they are files that are not needed, or
old files created by windows that are not used, or needed after creation. There
is no guarentee that any files other than the ones mentioned can be safely removed
from a specific system without knowing what it is, and what it is associated with..
