How I fixed this problem easily - my OS is XP Home:
Lft Click start > right click My Computer > Lft click on properties > The System
Properties box should appear > Click on the hardware tab > Click on the bar labled
Device Manager > Go to the Sounds, Video Games and Controllers - if not expanded
expand that tab so you can see the C-Media AC Audio listing > right click that listing
and lft click properties > ANothe box will open and you want to select the Driver
tab > there are several options there but the one that worked for me was the Roll
Back Driver > I clicked it and waited a minute for it to finish working. It changed
the name of my driver to Realtek but it now works great - hope you have the same
experience!
