Consistant Drive Mappings

I need to map a drive, I have a .bat file setup that works great, I have this .bat file in the All Users Startup directory. The issue I am having is that for some reason the drive mapping does not consistantly happen. I can shut the system down, power it up and the drive maps fine, shut the system down again, boot it up and the drive will not map, if I browes to the .bat file and launch it, it works like a champ. It is just not consistant and I cannot figure out why. A friend told me to change it to a .cmd file and that would work better, but I'm not so sure about that. Ideas anyone? Thanks Shimmy
