To stop Windows Explorer adding the prefix "Shortcut to" whenever you create a shortcut, in RegEdit, go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer" and set "link" to binary "00 00 00 00" and then, _before creating any shortcuts_, restart Explorer, either by logging out or killing and restarting it from Task Manager. My Theory: the first byte of the "link" value seems to be a count which Explorer loads when it starts and writes the next larger integer to each time you create a shortcut. If it's zero when Explorer starts then it stays zero. Zeroing it while Explorer is running doesn't work because Explorer will overwrite it from its in-memory value.
