Try right clicking on a blank spot then click properties and then click the tab that
says notification area. It the volumes tick box is grey and you can't select it,
then you have to log off and back on to your computer until it comes back. This is
something that happens with all vista users and it ususally only takes one time logging
out and back it to fix it. I hope this helps! :D
