Fatal startup crash in Windows XP

Hello!
So this morning I'm browsing the internet as usual, and my computer suddenly blue
screens me with a stop error screen, saying windows was shut down to protect my files.
(I am running Windows XP Home edition.) It suggests that I restart the computer if
this is a first time thing, and if it's reoccurring, to disable BIOS memory options
such as caching or shadowing. And the code at the bottom is: "***STOP: 0x00...A (0x00...0,
0x00...1C, 0x00...1, 0x804E1BF8)" The dots indicate more zeros, I didn't count them
all. (Should I?)
But restarting my computer doesn't work. I keep getting this blue screen. I cannot
enter Safe Mode, either; it gets stuck loading SPTD.sys, and if I push escape to
stop loading it, my computer just shuts off. The only way I am able to turn on my
computer is by entering Debug Mode.
I've done a basic scan for spyware and such, and it didn't turn up anything interesting.
I'm currently taking my Support Center's advice and am testing out Selective Startup
options in the System Configuration Utility. Unchecking "load system services" or
"WIN.INI file" does nothing. I'm about to try unchecking "load startup items" and
"SYSTEM.INI file", but I kind of doubt they will do anything. I know very little
about computers, so I don't know how to change my BIOS settings or what else to try.
Thank you very much for your time and help!!
