Until executed they can do nothing, a few tips: do not rely on an antivirus to catch 
malware, there is some overlap but they are not exactly the same thing, do not rely 
on an on access scan as they only scan files when they are run so may catch it to 
late, scan everything manually before you run it especially EXE files.
