I was irritated by the same problem so configured Outlook Express to send/receive Hotmail messages. I recollect seeing information to the effect that it was no longer possible to do this but I managed it only yesterday. It needs a bit more configuring than for my usual ISP email but is, nevertheless, very straightforward, at least for my ISP (BTInternet.com). If anyone is interested, I can post full details on this thread.
