Perhaps an oversimplification, but virtual memory simply means when your physical 
memory (installed modules) is low due to program(s) running then virtual memory temporarily 
kicks in and steals from your hard drive.
A general rule of thumb is to set minimum to 1.5 times the amount of Ram installed 
(i.e. 1024 Mb for 512 Mb Ram installed. Set in Paging File Size box.
Actually it is rare you need to do this unless you have minimal Ram installed and 
you frequently run Ram intensive programs.
