Carol, the only problem that defragmentation might possibly fix is if your PC is
running desperately slowly.
My point is this:
1. If your PC is running fine, then don't defragment the HDD
2. If your PC is not running fine, then its very unlikely that fragmentation is the
cause - so its better to diagnose what specifically is wrong rather than trying a
blanket solution which is unlikely to work.
3. No particular harm in defragging, except that it can screw up badly (unlikely)
and adds to the wear on your HDD.
I hope this makes sense.
