This is a topic that is covered in countless forums and blogs, but none of them have
helped me, and I have been trying to figure out how to purge my system of this stuff
on and off for years. I'm not even sure how it got on my computer, unless one of
my buddies loaded it years ago, as I have no installation disc. I do however, have
asked some of my geek friends to help me over the years, and I wouldn't put it past
them to have loaded it to do me a "Favor". Now, I haven't been able to get rid of
it, and I have tried getting the Symantec uninstaller, but apparently, it is no longer
available for Norton 2002 and before.
This is basically what I still have on my computer:
Under all the Norton files in “Program Files”
SDOPTIONS.DLL
Nopdb.exe
Npcomsvr.dll
Nprotect.exe
Numisc.dll
S32krnll.dll
S32utill.dll
SDEXCEPTION.dll
In Registry:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
SymAData.ActiveDataInfo
(This followed by at least one more with a similar name, then followed by)
Symantec.AnalysisSnapIn
(This is a long, long list, going down to)
Symantec.VolumeInfo.1
(Then followed by)
SymAppTracc.TaleWorks
(A few more with similar names, down to)
SymSimpleLogger.SymSimpleLogger.1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Software
Symantec
Norton Utilities
Norton Protection
Drive C:
Drive E:
Speed Disc
SymNRT
LTM
HKEY_USERS
.Default
Software
Symantec
Norton Utilities
Norton Unerase
State Icons
S-1-5-18
Software
Symantec
Norton Utilities
Norton Unerase
State Icons
The ones left in "Program Files" won't let me delete them.
The ones in the registry, I don't know about,as I haven't yet tried to delete them.
Can anybody help me? Can you direct me to a website or something where somone else
could help me. I recently loaded AVAST on my computer and every time it opens it
gives me a message saying that Norton Antivirus is running, so it can't run some
of its stuff. This kind of thing is driving me nuts. Obviously, after all this
time, I'm at my wits end, and any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
BoDill
