It turns out MailFrontier Desktop is bundled with Zonealarm,which my friend had uninstalled. However, the MFD uninstall information was left behind inthe Registry (HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Uninstall/.... ). We just backed up the Registry, deleted the MFD uninstall key, and McAfee installed OK.
