files don't support browsing anymore??

All of my folders seem to be governed by a search command- I can't just see all my files like normal. Each folder also opens in a separate window, despite my essentantly selecting contrary options. I have played with all to folder settings to no avail. What settings will fix this? Thanks, Kevin S.
