Hi David,
I don't know if it's too late to weigh in on the subject, but there's a relatively
easy way to do what you want.
First, hookup a blank HDD, jumper to Master, format\partition and install W7.
Shut down. Hookup your XP drive to the middle (black) plug on the cable and jumper
it to Slave. Restart.
When you're in W7 Explorer, open the XP Slave C:\ drive and *copy* these three files
to the root of your W7 C:\ drive: NTLDR, NTDETECT.COM, and boot.ini.
Reboot and you'll see W7 first on the boot screen with a countdown and WXP below
it. Hit the ▼ arrow, hit Enter and, violà (!) you're in XP.
You can also change the boot order in msconfig in W7.
