Slow boot - floppy light on

Yesterday and today, my PC has been booting excrutiatingly slowly (e.g. 5-10 min.). It appears to be hanging up for some time with blank screen (blinking underline cursor in upper rh cornere) and the floppy drive light on. I assume it's trying to boot from the floppy, but shouldn't that time out quickly? Any ideas on what's going wrong or how to troubleshoot? I have Norton & keep it updated & running. Haven't installed anything new recently. Thanks!
