How to cause "The installation source for this product is not available"

I'm supporting a machine that has a corrupted Adobe 8.1.4 installation and it will
not uninstall via the Windows' Add or Remove Programs.

Add or Remove Programs' message is, "The installation source for this product is
not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it".

I have Adobe's ugly recommended fix, while others recommend using the MS Installer
Cleanup (which I've tried and it leaves a mess - Adobe Reader won't reinstall afterwards).

So, I downloaded the Revo Uninstaller on my sandbox machine and ran it on an intact
installation of Adobe 8.1.x and it worked perfectly.

However, I actually want to RECREATE the SAME scenario on my sandbox machine (i.e.,
a corrupted Adobe Reader installation with the same error message) to test Revo to
see if it is able to uninstall it.

Does anyone know what "installation source" file and/or registry key that I would
need to remove or break to generate this same error message in Add or Remove Programs?

So, what I'm trying to do is to break a test installation to test Revo. Kinda the
opposite of what you normally find on this forum...

Thanks.
