Hi all.. bit of an odd one..
This started months and months ago, but Ive just sort of ignored it.. until today
when the other computer in the house died (hardware), so now its become irritating..
XP home SP3, all updates installed etc..
Some time after a reboot (60 mins, 6 hours.. but never lasts a day) I'll get a Windows
error box up telling me that Generic Host Process has crashed..
Once that happens, if I try and open the Windows volume control I get "no active
mixer devices available" .. and then the other day I discovered that when this happens
it also takes out my ability to surf to other machines on my network (ie: \\mymachine
in the run box tells me it can't find those machines, and ditto if I try and come
into this crashing one from another machine..)
Im just about to use Spybot's Startup utility to disable a bunch of stuff.. but while
Im waiting to see if it dies again.. anyone have any ideas?
thanks,
Brett
