Have you ever used Process Explorer? Grab a copy of it, install and run it. Make
note of the generic host processes and what is running under/in each one. When one
of the processes crash and disappear, you will have an idea of where to look. As
mentioned, it is usually a driver or hardware issue but no way to know for sure without
seeing it in person.

This will give a start and hopefully you will get some useful info without spending
a lot of time digging deeper.
