Dead Task Panel Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 4:09 am Windows XP Annoyances Discussion Forum Posted by Jen (1 messages posted) Awhile ago, a program called Windows Police Pro (I think it was) managed to download itself without me even noticing, no popup, no choosing anything...it was just suddenly there, and bothering me quite a bit. It wouldn't let me run any of my security programs to get rid of it, and it also caused task manager to stop working. I went into safe mode and got rid of everything AVG Free could find of it, and can now use it and the other programs like it that I have, but Task Manager still won't work. I read on this forum some other people's problems of it only showing up for a few seconds and then going away, but what happens for me is different...it acts like it's going to open, but then nothing at all happens. It doesn't flash on the screen for even a second. System restore wouldn't work, running several other programs didn't fix it, and I don't know what might be infected to cause it to happen...does anyone have any ideas?
