I also encountered this error twice in the last two weeks, as of 30th Nov 2009.
This I believe to be caused by a utility I have written to automatically change the
name of the PC.
There appears to be a 13 character limit on the name you give your PC and if you
manually try to add more than 13 it warns you and truncates the name you typed in.
However, I use a utility to do this, by modifing the Registry directly so when I
permit it to add more than 13 characters it does so and when I reboot, bingo. LASS
error.
Now all I need to figure out is how to undo the change without having to re-install
the whole damn system. WHEN I've figured it out I will come back and post the answer.
