After reading through the above posts and unfortunately not having any luck I managed
to find my own fix as follows:
CTRL, ALT, Del and run a new task called iexplore
Then go to http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm
Download from one of the mirror sites but RUN the application don't save it otherwise
you will not be able to get to the file as your desktop is not working correctly.
Run a Registry scan and clean and then re-boot. (I also uninstalled the google toolbar
and google updater but not sure if this had any effect) After a reboot all works
fine.
Hope this helps someone out.
