Like an idiot, I also shut down RPC by mistake. I was using a program (currports)
and I told that program to terminiate a connection that I was not sure about. Well,
It terminated it allright and then all hell broke loose afterwards. I got the "Windows
is shutting down" message and after I rebooted, no taskbar, and multiple necessary
Windoze services refused to start. I battled this problem trying most ALL of the
fixes listed here. Nothing... nada... Nothing worked. Like jj, I noticed a dependency
listed for Dcom. I went to the DCOM entry in the registry, changed the setting from
4 to 2 and WALAH! Everything seems to be working properly now. Thank you jj for your
input! I hope that if someone else experiences this same problem, that this will
help them.
