After reading many message boards on this topic, I searched my computer for atapi.sys
files and found 3 in the following files:
1. C:\I386
2. C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
3. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS
The first one was older. The second and third ones seemed identical, with a date
of 04/13/2008. But in lieu of looking for another copy on another computer, I replaced
the third one from the SYSTEM32 subfolder with the second one (from ServicePackFiles
subfolder). I since have had two successful startups. Is this just a coincidence?
The files seemed identical.
