I have a question about How do I turn off Compressed Folders (built-in support for ZIP files) in Windows Vista and XP?:

I have Windows XP on my desktop and windows Vista on my laptop. I can't open any Zip folders on either machine - or, at least, when I do, all I get is a series of sub-folders and documents full of gobbledegook!

Tried all the options when I right click and at best I get a copy of the gobbledegook in another folder without a zip

I've Googled it and followed all the instructions in case I'm being dense - not a very confident user, (by the way, my laptop is 1 year old and my desktop has a brand new OS) and no joy. It's driving me up the wall! What am I doing wrong?

Not sure turning off the Zip files support is what I want to do. I just want to be able to open any zip file sent to me, please.
