This subject is (tersely) discussed in a MS Technet article Q309283, that can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q309283. The abbreviations in the article are not explained; here are some. UP = Uni (single) Processor, MP = Multi Processor. PIC is Programmable Interrupt Controller (I think) and APIC I think is the new type of PIC that appears I believe in the i845 Intel motherboards. This last is of particular interest to me because on my girlfriend's P4 system each card has its own interrupt, none shared, with some as high as 21, that is there seem to be more than the historic 16 available. On my other systems there are only the usual 16, which in a full system often give problems as some cards/drivers won't share interrupts. I think this depends on PIC/APIC. Can anyone shed more light on this, in particular what I should look for in a new motherboard to know it supports more than 16 interrupts? TIA, RS
