Question about 'Can't access some websites while using a shared PPPoE connection'

I have a question about Can't access some websites while using a shared PPPoE connection:

I've tried to find my MTU number but I have run into a problem. When I try ping -f -l MTU IPAddress it tells me Packet needs to be fragmented for 1492 and 1500. I understand that this is working properly but when I try it with an MTU 0f 1454 it just times out. It continues to time out as I lower the number until I get to 1372. The post didn't say anything about time outs so I thought I'd post a question. Is this going to be a problem or can I just use 1372 as my MTU number?
