Question about 'How do I turn off Windows XP's built-in support for ZIP files?'

The process described in "How do I turn off Windows XP's built-in support for ZIP
files?" did not work for me. It was successful initially, but as soon as I re-associated
ZIP files with WinZip, so that I can double click on them to open them, then Explorer
went right back to treating them as folders again. Did I miss something, or is this
"solution" really that useless?
