I've been unsuccessful in trying to set up a two PC home network between a new HP
Pavilion 780N (WIN XP, 512MB RAM, 100 GB HD, pre-installed 10/100 NIC, using modem
connection to internet) as the host, and a Dell Dimension 4100 (WIN98SE, 512MB RAM,
75GB HD, LinkSys 10/100 NIC installed by me) as the client. I'm using the RJ45 cables
to a four port hub between the two computers, and I've followed the directions I
found on this site on how to set up the ICS, the different settings via the properties
menus for IP, gateway, DNS, etc. I checked out some of the info in several books
(to include the ones put out by Annoyances), but didn't see any answers to this particular
problem. I've given the computers different names, the workgroup is the same name,
and I can't think of anything else. I would appreciate any feedback or assistance
on this.
