XP upgrade refuses to allow use of head phones

I have a question about Go Directly to Device Manager:

The Company recently upgraded our computers to MS Windows XP PRO. ever since we have been unable to use our headphones to listen to music CDs, total silence. Plugging in at the back of the computer is however successfull. No amount of "help" searching uncovers the cause. The systems people are also unsuccessfull. Do you have any ideas or suggestions?.
