Question about 'How do I stop a program from running whenever I start Windows?'

[WinXP] Whenever I boot my computer, Windows Explorer starts up, showing a directory
(okay, "folder") that I had been using some weeks ago.
As far as I know, there are three places where I can see the apps loaded when winXP's
starts: "Startup" in the Start menu, hk_local_machine/software/microsoft/current
version...etc. and in the startup tab in msconfig.
Well, Explorer doesn't appear in "startup" in the start menu. I don't have a "currentversion"
heading in my registry (at least I don't see it.) and msconfig doesn't show explorer
either (though it shows a lot of stuff I don't recognize.)
Am I missing something? Any ideas? Your help is greatly appreciated.
