Video Drivers and XP

Alright, I built this computer myself and I was running 98 for a year before I decided
to switch to XP. Prior to the introduction of XP my computer didn't have any problems.
I generally pride myself on being able to figure this stuff out myself, and I can't,
so I am really hoping someone else is able to bale me out. Anyway, since I switched
to XP Home I have been getting problems with the Drivers for my GeForce Ti 4600.
I only know that these are causing the problems because that is what the error report
says when I start up sometimes.
The symptoms are unlike anything I have ever seen before. When I start my computer
sometimes it works fine and sometimes it will ge through the early screens to the
part where windows starts booting and then my screen will go blank (this makes sense
because that is when the video drivers would take over for the BIOS). Anyway the
odd part is that my computer works almost 100% of the time if it has been off for
at least 3 hours before I turn it back on and less than 5% of the time if I am turning
it back on within 3 or so hours of the time it was last turned off. Given my knowledge
of computers this makes absolutely no sense at all. The other thing is that my computer
will freeze up from time to time when I am running games (these games being Warcraft
III: The Frozen Throne and Civilization III). Naturally the thing that frustrates
me most is that if it freezes up it will not start back up again unless I have let
it stay down for a few hours. When my computer IS working it runs extremely well
all the way up to the point when it freezes.
Thanks in advance to anyone that tries to help.
