I have a question about Customize
Drive Icons:
Windows XP: The Method that seems to truly work
My specific set-up:
I have a network drive, shared accross a bank of computers, used a a very low-security
(in the room anyways) file server. I wanted the network mount (S:\) to show my custom
icon (S:\SFS-ICON.ico)
The key I messed with :
\\HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2
in here, you will find all your drives listed, for network shares it looks like :
\##HOSTNAME#SHARENAME\
in this key, create a new key named "DefaultIcon"
set the default value of the new key to the full path (and index if nessasary) of
your icon file. The first icon in the file is index 0. i.e., my value is
"S:\SFS-ICON.ico,0"
Works right away inside of things like open and save-as dialogs, for explorer to
pick it up, a reboot is nessasary.
