Question: How to restore systray icons after Explorer crashes

For the past 6 months, Windows Explorer crashes regularly when I use it to navigate
my hard drive. The desktop recovers, but only some of my systray icons are
restored (the other TSR's continue to run and are displayed in task manager, but
their icons are gone and are not restored by running another instance of explorer.exe,
as suggested here). I've noticed that the Explorer crashes do not occur if
I boot into Safe Mode, but do ocurr if I boot into Safe Mode with Networking, which
leads me to suspect that something about my network (3 PC peer to peer running through
a Linksys router) is causing the Windows Explorer crashes.
Two questions:
1) does anyone know how to recover the missing systray icons after a Windows Explorer
crash where the desktop is restored automatically but systray icons are not, and
2) does anyone have know what in networking might be causing the crashes in the first
place? (I tried recreating my network from scratch using the Windows wizard, but
it didn't help).
Thanks!
