Question about 'Customize the Places Bar in Office 2000 and Office XP'

Hello - can anyone suggest a reason the registry would *not* be there as described? Oddly enough, I could do this in Office2000 (with the add-in) but cannot on OfficeXP (still Win2000). The registry key is not there, and the "add to My Places" is greyed out under the Tools menu from the CmnDlg box. Thanks, PM
