These crashes were caused by an SDRAM failure. After looking through several Stop
0xA crash dumps, a friend at Microsoft found a pattern tying them all together. There
was a single-bit RAM error in a certain memory location used for an important kernel
pointer. Whenever WinXP referenced the corrupted pointer, the system crashed. Note
that this system appeared to run Win98, Win98se and Linux just fine, presumably because
the memory failure affected a less sensitive location. Stug replaced his RAM yesterday
and now appears to be crash free.
