Since upgrading to Xp, my Memorex CRW-1622 doesn't function properly. The error message
I receive from every burning program i try is, "ASPI for windows failed to initialize."
Any suggestions?

I've had similar problems with this, dunno why microsoft have messed the aspi layer
again in XP as they did in Win 2000, but I found a workaround install a forced aspi
layer using a util called Forceaspi, works for me! Maybe worth a try! Have a look:

Well, I tried Forceaspi with no luck. I also tried some other non-Adaptec ASPI layers
with no luck. The help is appreciated though. I'll keep playing with it to see what
happens.

Mine worked fine in Windows 2000 but not with XP. The ForceASPI trick didn't work
for me. Recently I tried two things, and one or both of them seemed to have done
the trick:
1) There is a small <1MB Windows Update for CDR issues. Run Windows Update at the
top of the start menu and install this from the list.
2) Switched drive to PIO mode from DMA mode in the Device Manager.

I have the NTI Software that came with my CRW-1662 drive. It is not compatible with
Win2K or WinXP, however, using Win2K or WinXP's compatibility mode managed to solve
the problem for me. In Win2K you have to edit the shortcut to the program you wish
to run by changing it to run in Win95 compatibility mode. In WinXP you can actually
change the compatibility mode on the executable itself, and you can pick from Win95,
98 or NT.
I hope this works for you.

Hi i found the solution to the memorex crw 1622 problem... just go to the hardware
manager to the ide ata/atapi controllers, then go to secondary ide channel (or the
primary, depending where your burner is installed) and change to PIO mode on the
advanced tab. restart and the burner will work fine. if necessary update your aspi
drivers.

I second this solution. It worked great for me too - no aspi driver updated needed
at all. Select: Control Panel, System, Hardware tab, Device Manager, IDE ATA/ATAPI
controllers, Primary (or Secondary) IDE Channel, Advanced Settings tab, Device 0
or Device 1 (depending on where the CD-RW is connected), change Transfer Mode from
"DMA if available" to "PIO only". Reboot, and it works! Thanks for the tip.

Um, all my devices are on PIO mode by default. I cannot use my Memorex CRW-1622
drive. I need more information to help me use this drive. Tell me
A) What software you are using to burn to the drive?
B) What drivers the CD-drive is running under?
I'll tell you if/when my drive comes online. Thanks.

I followed the tips in this thread and did get my 1622 to work when I: Set the ide
channel to PIO for the cdrw drive and used NERO (free demo on their page) to burn.
Works fine so far. WindowsXP still does NOT allow me to drag and drop files onto
the drive, but if I can use NERO to burn, I am happy.
Thanks to all who have posted tips. It really helped out.
