Having looked into this further, (my HP 8100i and EZCD5) their respective websites say that patches/updates for the HP CD-Rs and Roxio EZCD will be issued on or just after the official release of Windows XP. I now use XP for testing when I don't need the CD-r but otherwise I get on with things under W2K Pro. In other words, once the patches are up and running, I shall transfer to WinXP pemanently.

the software works fine on my system the only problem I encountered was with the direct cd portion of roxio. First it doesnt work after upgrading and it caused my system to restart everytime I tried shutting it down. Uninstalled ez 5 then reinstalled without the direct cd option and working ok

My findings as well Bob, but I DO like Easy CD. Nero for instance is far too convoluted, much rather the drag and drop simplicity or Explorer-like EasyCD.

Hmmm...

I am using Roxio EZCD 4.0 standard. It would not work with WinXP initially, but
after I downloaded and applied Roxio's upgrade patch to version 4.05, it has worked
fine with XP.

However, the packet-writing software, DirectCD, works erratically, so I uninstalled
it. For what I use a CD burner for, I haven't really missed packet-writing capability
that much.

For what it's worth, for CD rips, I've been surprisingly satisfied with Windows Media
Player 7, as shipped with XP. The sound quality is fine and the ripping speed is
very fast. Granted, there is no support for MP3 ripping yet (Microsoft promises
this in October), but I find that I have been slowly gravitating to .wma files anyway.
I have done some close listening comparison work and have determined to my satisfaction
that Microsoft's compression algorithm is superior, with far fewer undesirable artifacts.
For example, there is no evidence of that nasty mp3 pre-echo. Acoustic instruments
such as violins, brass, as well as high percussion sound much more open and natural.
Moreover, the file sizes are smaller.

Another factor to consider is the method of installation. I initially installed
XP as an upgrade over a perfectly functioning WinME (well, as close to perfect as
ME can get, anyway:)) installation. XP exhibited many quirks and much of my software
either ran improperly or not at all.

I said to Hell with it and backed up my files, stuck in my DOS boot disk, hit reset
and typed "format C:". After a clean install of XP, everything worked beautifully.
I reinstalled my applications, and most of the ones that would not run before, including
EZCD, ran properly after the clean install.

Go figure...

It has been my experience that ALMOST anything that is designed to run under Win2K,
will also run under XP.

Easy CD Creator 5 works fine with XP

Roxio's Easy CD Creator 5 works just fine with XP, I've been using it without any problems. The hitch is that if you upgraded to XP from a previous Windows version, you will have to uninstall and then reinstall EZCD 5. Once you do that, no problems. As for someone having problems using Direct CD, my only question is why the hell would you want to use Direct CD in the first place??

OMG ive had a nightmare with win xp and roxios ez cd creator 5 platinum (supposedly compatible). Win xp disabled drivers associated with it when i boot up. I uninstalled, reinstalled.. yada yada several times and even had to reinstall xp because of the conflict. My suggestion.... stay away from roxio until they get a better version. I used to love ez cd creator.. now I use Nero version 5.5.5.1. and it works great!

One would use Direct Cd to drag and drop data files such as WP files to a data cd for back-up. Any other questions Bub?

I'm planning a clean install of XP, and had intended to install Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum but after reading these posts, I may be returning the software. I've become mildly dependent on Direct CD for backing up my large ever changing Quicken file, as well as "precious" data files and my many disorganized photos and MP3's that I've not yet burned to CD-R. If Direct CD is unavailable, I will need to backup all these files to Zip disks (or "waste" quite a few CD-R's). Does anyone know if the Roxio update that was just released resolves the problems with Direct CD? If not, Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum is history! Finally, does anyone out there use InCD (the nero version of packet writing) and will it convert my Direct CD files?

This is right. EZCD5 is a total nightmare. What are Roxios playing at ? my advice is avoid, avoid, avoid.

EZCD5 is not working well with XP. Is anyone else having problems, even after the XP upgrade patch?

Will Nero convert mp3's to wav files on the fly?

YES. godammit. I had EZCD 5 Platinum working fine with Win 2K on my new Mitsumi drive. EZCD 5.0 didn't recognise the drive, but the 5.02b updater did. When I upgraded to XP, I did a clean install (formatted drive) but didn't install EZCD because I has read about the problems with XP on the Roxio site. So when the EZCD XP updater came out, I followed the Roxio instructions to the letter (5.0 install with no reboot, then 5.02b, then XP patch). The updaters both failed to recognise 5.0 and immediately quitted. I then got a BSOD on next boot. In fact, TOTAL death. I tried Safe Mode, Last Known Config, and every other boot option. Nada. Zip. EZCD had killed my machine. I had to reinstall the OS again. I am now waiting on Roxio's support people to get back to me. Will I be more careful next time and create a Restore point before installing? You bet. Do I trust EZCD on XP? What do you think?

I have endless problems with Easy CD Creator 5 and win xp. Have a new Sony FXA 36 laptop. Have followed Roxio directions to install Easy 5 and then two update files. Have been on the phone to Roxio Tech support for at least 2 1/2 hours. Have done everything they could think of (they are sending a new CD to see if mine is defective) uninstalled the CD writing sw that came with the computer. The end result is that after trying to install Easy CD it destroys the ability to access the CD RW/DVD drive - it is not in my computer anymore!!!!! This is a clean install on a new computer, so all the points about uninstalling do not apply. Does anyone have a clue of what to do? Don't know what other details I need to supply. Have used CD-Creator for many years on Win98 with no problems. Upgraded to Win XP and the applied the patch to upgrade to 50.2 and XP Platinum and since then nothing but problems. The CD wil strat buring and get to 99% before hanging before it gets to write the TOC and lead out - now considering Dual Boot just so I can use my CD Writer again.

I installed Windows XP PRO into a system using a Epox 8KTA3+ motherboard and an Adaptec 2940uw SCSI crad. The CD writer I use is a Yamaha 2100s. When XP first booted after the install the system stopped responding, I decided to disconnect the CD writer from the system as my first step to solving the problem. After this procedure was completed XP was booted and fully operational. I then decided that the internal CD UDF writing package that comes with XP was the problem. I installed EZCD Creator 5 Platimun with the patch for XP hoping it would solve the problem, but it did not. Both Direct-CD and the XP's imapi.sys caused the system to hang. The next step was to install the hard drive with XP installed, the SCSI card and CD writer into an old ABIT BX6r2 hosting a P2 400 cpu. XP is fully functional in this system and all the CD writing software works perfectly. I now beleive the Epox mother board or the Via chipset drivers for it are to blame. I think both Microsoft and Roxio should come up with the solution to this problem as there will be many people with similar problems.

I have the exact same problem. Get's to 99 or 100% and just hangs there. Never does anything else. For what it's worth, I installed Nero just to see and it does the same thing at the same point. Let me know if you get anywhere with this.
