Formatting Windows XP

You are probably having this problem because you selected the NTFS file system for
Windows XP install. To remove the partition and reformat your drive, you will need
to find a Windows 2000 or XP bootable CD. Insert the CD and begin installation, and
when it gets to the screen about choosing a partition delete the current partition
and any others that may be on there. Reboot the system. Then you should be able to
use FDISK or whatever to make a new partition & format.
Hope this helps.

if you used ntfs you won't get a c: prompt. i'd boot from floppy type fdisk /mbr
then type fdisk hit option 4 i think it is been awhile (delete partion) then select
the option after that(non ms-dos partition). that should correct any problems. When
you relod the os, it will repartion your drive. and format. Not this will erase
everything on your hard drive.

Use this debug script and it is impossible for it not to work on a good Harddrive
This debug routine is used to erase all partition information on the hard disk drive
and is only recommend for experienced users or users who are unable to delete the
partition information through fdisk
.
A:\>debug
-F 200 L1000 0
-A CS:100
xxxx:0100 MOV AX,301
xxxx:0103 MOV BX,200
xxxx:0106 MOV CX,1
xxxx:0109 MOV DX,80
(80 for hd 0 or 81 for hd 1 )
xxxx:010C INT 13
xxxx:010E INT 20
xxxx:0110
-g
Program terminated normally
-q
Once this debug routine is complete reboot computer and all partitions should be
erased. Before anything can be installed back onto the computer you must run Fdisk
and recreate the partition as well as format the hard disk drive.

Try repartitioning your Hard Drive from DOS, in the process it will be forced to
wipe out any existing data.

If you haven´t been able to format yet
I suggest you try delpart.exe
It removes every sort of filesystem,
Dos, non dos, fat32, ntfs.
Send me a mail
