I get the error message 0x80040154 when trying to connect to the e-mail server from
Outlook XP.
Can anyone tell what this stands for?
best regards
Stig

Hey!
Same problem here again! I think it's because it's illegal! :-(

It indicates that a COM component is not registered properly. Re-register the particular
component and you will be good to go.

Running Outlook XP on a Windows Me system, I also suddenly got the following error
when trying to check my email:
Sending and Receiving reported error 0x80040154
The previous time the computer had been powered on, I had uninstalled some of
the optional components of Windows that seemed un-needed.
Searching the Microsoft Knowledge base for error 0x80040154 indicated that something
the Outlook program needed was not installed or not correctly registered within the
Windows operating system.
Running the Microsoft Office install in Repair mode (first time selecting find
and fix errors, second time telling it to re-install the current setup) did NOT resolve
this problem.
The final solution was that to re-install the Windows Address book. (Outlook uses
its own Contacts list, and I had previously uninstalled Outlook Express, etc., so
it had appeared this was no longer needed.)
Hopes this helps others who encounter this error message.

I had this problem as well on Windows 98se. After quite a few interesting words,
I removed both the Windows internal address book and Outlook Express. I was forced
to reboot. I tried to open Outlook XP, it would not open without Outlook Express.
I reinstalled Outlook Express and automatically the Windows internal address book.
Tested okay.

Thankyou Paul, very much indeed
This "annoyance" gave us a very trying day at this business in France.
The address book was removed by windows 98SE cleanup. Reactivating it using Control
Panel did not succeed at first; the accessory still would not run.
I also found the microsoft Windows 98SE download site has a few updates (despite
the note that it is discontinued) which I also downloaded and ran.
I upgraded Office XP for small business SB
http://office.microsoft.com/fr-fr/downloads/maincatalog.aspx
three times (note it's the France version), each time the autosystemexamination and
autoupdate added a dozen or so updates (needs the OfficeXP SB CD even if using the
fullversion downloads - to find the SBERET.msi file). I reboot twice after each
and at the third update . . . Voila! as we say here. Outlook XP for small business
running again with 98SE.
Thankyou for being so kind as to note your experience here. From everyone here.
Bonjour.
Matthew (a Scot actually, living in France)
