I have a question about Getting Network Neighborhood to recognize newly attached computers:

i am trying to network a new hp 7955 pavillion p4-1.5ghz with XP op sys to a Micron p3-450mhz with win98SE op sys.... XP will see win98 but not other way around..... help !!!! thanks keith

Just a thought..... The built in Firewall with xp can do this. Try turning it off and see if that helps Frodg

I'm guessing your using netbeui on the win98 machine.. this will not work. install NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Prot. on both machines and use that. I also have network monitoring driver installed. once installed on the xp system open your network connections go to advanced tap, then advanced settings remove the TCP/IP check under file and printer sharing.. this is for security. hope this helps

could u ping each other? if so rename your workgroup.

Unbelievable!!!!! I have been plagued by this problem for months. Only 2 of the computers on my network suddenly lost contact with each other and all the other computers on the network lost contact with them. I've tried everything from reinstalling network software to running every imaginable utility I could find. Nothing worked. This WORKED!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you.
