I notice that XP accesses the disk drive when in screen saver mode (blank screen). No programs are running. What is it doing? can I get rid of it?

Could be that Xp is saving your data for the quick restore or just that the screen saver is using the drive, I know webshots screen saver has always used my drive for the large pics it uses.

More than likely you are running McAfee VirusScan on your system, (or another virus program) and it is set to scan in the background. You may also have a file sharing program running, like Kazaa, and someone is downloading a file.
