so jay, your subject said "unistall win '98", but the message says "win XP". which
do you mean?
reason i'm insterested is i'm considering upgrading to win XP form win '98. if i
buy an upgrade system i would expect it would uninstall win'98 itself.

Hope this will help... If you are upgrading to XP from 98 the upgrade will uninstall
98 automatic. But I would not recommend this. I suggest you backup any files you
really need and want and do a clean install of XP.
You can do this with the UPGRADE version of XP if you have the original copy of win98.
Here are the steps:
1. backup you data
2. boot your system with your old 98 boot disk
3. go to fdisk and delete all logical, and primary drives.
4. Then create yourself new partiions and logical drives that best suit your needs.
(this way you don't put all your eggs in one basket)
5. reboot your computer (with the boot disk) and format your "C" drive only. (you
can do the other logical drives later)
6. reboot your machine without the boot disk and go into you BIOS setting and make
you CDROM the first boot drive.
7. instert you XP cd and the files should start to load.
8. at one point you will be promt to instert you original win 98 cd to verify that
you own one, no files will be copied, it will then promt for the XP cd and away you
go to a clean install of XP on a clean hard drive.
9. after you install XP reboot and go back to BIOS setting and change your cdrom
back to the 3rd boot device. (floppy, HDD, CDROM) in this order..
If you have any question feel free to email me...

i'm considering upgrading a win'98 computer to win xp, primarily to be able to network
the two together. (xp handles networking completely different than previous releases)
but if you are having problems, i'm not so sure any more. what kind of problems
were you having?
