uninstalling windows xp - troubleshooting

i'm trying to uninstall windows xp from the "add/remove list" but i get a message
saying: "setup cannot uninstall windows xp because the backup files have been modified".
how can i fix this? please help me, I HATE WINDOWS XP!!!.

RE-install ME or whatever system you had before. Then, delete XP.

Typically when you have upgraded from one operating system to another, the prior
operating system restore files are backed-up in case you decide you wish to uninstall
the upgrade. Least that has been in effect since Win98 came out. However, if you
have deleted the backed-up restore files, you are out of luck. Period.
Only way to reinstall is format hard drive and reinstall clean.
