I have a ABIT KT7 PC and the ACPI is always enabled in BIOS. Therfore the APM /HAL is not loaded. I also have problems with the sleep function as the PC crashes. Any solution to this problem ?? I was having the same problem,and found out that my EZ CD creater was causing it. I think it was MS's Q310628 (I think) that was talking about it......I downloaded the upgrade 5.02b and the problem went away.
