Check 3 things. First...make sure you have the latest BIOS revision from Dell (http://support.dell.com\filelib).
Second..make sure you are using ACPI Power management. Third...Make sure all your
drivers are ACPI compliant (get the latest ones for XP also from Dell). If any drivers
are not ACPI compliant, Standby and Hibernate functions may not work properly. Also...do
you have any USB devices connected or Palm Pilot software installed. These use an
active connection (constantly polling ports) and will cause problems.

Everything is updated as far as i know. I updated to A09, updated everything there
was to. When i do try to get it to come out of standby, the activity light comes
on for about 10 seconds, then it restarts. With win2k i had some problems with standby
also, but fixed its self after i reinstalled it. I guess i have to hope this solves
itself the same way because there seems to be no reason for this to be happening.
Another strange thing i noticed with XP is that when i dont use the computer for
about 10-15 minutes, there is alot of activity going on (no apps running). Im not
sure what could be causing it, but in the processes list, the "System Idle Process"
is using 97-99 of CPU. But when i look under Performance, it doesnt agree with what
its saying, only 4% of CPU usage.

It is probably your antivirus software. Disable the TSR from running in the background
and see if it fixes the problem. If so, check the manufacturer's website for a fix
or patch.

See another message and its reply, but ...
Check under Scheduled Tasks, there was something tagged to run every 10 minutes on
my system when running XP Pro beta - something to do with the restore feature.
